Blizzard makes Investigations?

If you are a developer, and you release a patch and suddenly, multiple people are having Audio, or Video issues, then it is most likely something you put in that patch. Especially if they tell you it worked fine the previous day.

My common sense tells me that Blizzard probably do too. The question to me is whether they listened to these people at all? Yes! Were they right to tell people (even multiple people) to check things their ends? Yes! Will they do so again if a similar problem presents itself? I damn well hope so!

BigRedKitty: Patch 2.4 AddOns

Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the Hunter class, sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.

The technology wonks in the BRK Copyright-Violation, Trademark-Theft, and Patent-Infringement Squad were let out of their cells and set loose upon several WoW addon developers' servers and code. The reports they've returned are staggering in number, detail, graphic violence, and lewdness. It would seem that, to be a WoW addon developer, one must have a brilliant mind, a single-mindedness of purpose, and a truly disturbing love of cheese and cheese-like products.

We'd go into more detail, but this is a family web site. /shudder.

Breakfast Topic: Consumables: Buy, gather, or make?

As I was searching the AH yet again the other day, whining to myself about how high prices were getting on Elixirs of Major Agility, it occurred to me to wonder... If they're so high, why don't I just make them myself?

Actually, before the Burning Crusade -- or more specifically, daily quests -- came along, I generally would, or rather, I'd buy the herbs and find a friend to do the combines. Others besides me took it one step further and started an alt character specifically to have someone to gather herbs and make potions for them. But even without herbalism, if you watched the AH and herb prices for a bit, you could buy herbs when they were a bit on the cheap side and get yourself a stockpile of cheap elixirs, potions, and flasks.

Shamans disappointed yet again in 2.4 notes

Yes indeed, odds are that if you talked to a Shaman this weekend about patch 2.4, you got pretty much the same feeling: Shamans, especially enhancement Shamans, aren't really thrilled about what we got out of the patch. We've been hoping for (finally) buffs, including an update on how Blizzard is going to deal with our totem and mana problems. We were hoping for shields to get reinvigorated and redesigned. We were hoping to see big changes to the class, and instead we got... a new Stormstrike icon, and a totem timer?

The Plight of the Shaman in World of Warcraft

Who is Kalgan? Kalgan, aka Tom Chilton, is the lead designer for game systems, including classes, item design mechanics, and PvP. As the problems with the shaman class are deeper than just the class's abilities, Kalgan is who we must convince that the game needs to change.

Many players, even shaman, misunderstand what happens to the shaman class as you approach endgame. The shaman is a melee-oriented spellcaster with secondary healing capabilities; spending all your time healing, or all your time nuking from range, was not what the shaman class was originally intended to do. But it is what two out of three shaman specs have evolved into doing, as a result of the impositions of the raid environment. The problem is that specialization for these roles prevents shaman from being able to melee effectively, which is an essential part of the class and the reason for shaman not having the crowd-control and other defensive functions that other classes have. This has led many shaman to suppose that their secondary functions should be self-sufficient; they should not have to melee in order to attain the level of versatility and effectiveness in PvP that other classes have.

This is wrong. Shaman should be able to use all aspects of their class... healing, nuking, and meleeing. Talents are a minor form of lock-in, but the main reason that shaman are not able to use this kind of hybrid playstyle is the restrictions from gear.

Therefore, in order to fix the shaman class, Kalgan

Should links between real and virtual economies be encouraged or banned?

For players of online role-playing games such as EverQuest 2 and World of Warcraft, battling monsters and amassing treasure is an enjoyable form of escapism. Yet the real and virtual worlds are increasingly intertwined.

since Patch 2.2 every time I change a continent

since Patch 2.2 every time I change a continent or enter a instance my World of Warcraft exits with an error. I´m playing WoW since Patch 1.8 and I never had a problem like that before. Does anybody has a solution?

Following error message pops up (Blizzard bug tool):

Wine version tested 0.9.49

the issue is i am unable to either read the addons folder, or my WTF/Config.wtf from cedega its self, each time it starts up it resets my settings.
Logging into wow no addons is listed on the charecter screen.

Playing from the same folder i am able to perform both of these under wine.

All files have been chmod'ed 777 in my wow folder this was just to be on the safe side.

I have tried to manually edit the config file for cedega, and ive tried the default settings for the game. The issues remain the same.

I've been trying for weeks to get this working, and asked in the #cedega channel on freenode (however only silence)

my opengl etc is functioning... (well i am playing under wine without these issues, but i want to be able to play under cedega so i can get some propper graphics and have hardware curser).

Any help/tips are welcome.

I logged into WoW from another computer running Windows

Having experienced extreme lag--in excess of 1000ms--on the PTR with patch 2.2, I merely figured it was the server succumbing to its high population. But now that the patch is live, where as I used to sit around 60ms, I know hover at about 1200ms.

To make sure it wasn't a patch day coincidence, I logged into WoW from another computer running Windows--it worked fine. So I launched WoW through WINE, and I experienced no latency issues. The problem only occurs when I run WoW v2.2 from within Cedega.

Is anyone else experiencing extreme fits of lag since the new patch has gone live? And moreover, is there a solution?
